Special appropriations related to almost anything not covered in the regular Treasurer's Accounts. These delve into the monies spent for street projects, which are a good indication of the growth of the town. Also monies for the building and maintenance of an electric light plant and the lighting of streets by electricity are recorded here. Includes accounts relating to: Running expenses for Town Hall; The laying of new streets as well as the creation of sidewalks and edgestones; Repair and widening of existing streets, as well as paving and watering; State and local taxes; Electric light committee; Funds for Electric Light Plant; Monies paid for purchase and maintenance of fire engines; Fire hydrants; Maintenance of cemeteries, including soldiers' burial lot; Bridge work; Erection and repairs of schools; Remodeling old high school; Almshouse repair and maintenance, including the installation of bathroom; To install drinking fountain in square; For celebrations for events, such as Memorial Day and decoration of soldiers graves; Insurance expenses; Water Board accounts; Repair of dam at Spring Pond; For the creation of Highland Park; Money spent for truants; Money spent for soldiers' aid, which grew yearly due to aging veterans; To trim trees and plant shade trees; Board of Health expenses for caring for contagious diseases. |
