Description George Peabody was given a golden box from the City of London for the work he did in helping the poor of London. What accompanied the box was a framed award. The award reads:

A common concil holder in the Chamber of the Guildhill of the City of London on Thursday the 22nd day of May 1862 --

Resolved unanimously / That The Honorary freedom of this City / In a Gold Box of the
Value of One hundred Guinnies be presented to / George Peabody Esq / In grateful recognition of the princely munificence displayed by him in devoting the sum of one hundred and fifty thousand pounds towards the relief of the needy and deserving Poor of this Metropolis / and of the Christian liberality of sentiment which dictated that the fund thus created should be administered irrespective of the distiction of national party or religious belief
