The band is made of silk and has a cotton patch on it. The patch has a picture of an American eagle and this short proclamation:

"In Honor Of The Memory Of George Washington!
Columbia's Eagle weeping, mounts the sky,
Bearing aloft to glory's shrouded sun,
The Name and Death of our great Washington!
An Empire's tears! a People's moan and sigh!"
