|Object Name||Stick, Walking|
One wooden walking stick, 53 1/2" tall.
Presented c. 1900 by the Boston Post, to the oldest citizen in Peabody. When the oldest citizen died, the cane was to be passed onto the next oldest resident of Peabody, and so on.
The first owner of the cane was Wentworth Winchester. When he died in 1915, the cane was passed onto Isaiah Chute. After his death in 1921, it was passed onto George W. Pratt. No information as to later ownership. It seems that the cane was then entrusted to the Library for safekeeping.
